Imperial County names Daniel Rosenberg as Chief Public Defender

KYMA

IMPERIAL COUNTY, Calif. (KYMA) - Daniel Rosenberg has officially been appointed as the Chief Public Defender for Imperial County.

Rosenberg formally accepted the position at the Board of Supervisors meeting Tuesday.

Rosenberg has been serving as Assistant Public Defender for the last four years, but as Chief Public Defender, he will oversee the office and its legal defense services.

"I'm so thankful to the entire office, to the Board of Supervisors, to the Jewish community here in Imperial County, to the entire community that has been behind me every step of the way," Rosenberg told News 11 in an interview.

Rosenberg's appointment marks a new chapter for the office that represents people who cannot afford an attorney.

He replaces Ben Salorio, who is preparing to take his spot on the bench after winning his election for Imperial County Superior Court judge.

Saloio praised his now former co-worker.

"He's one of the hardest working men I know," Salorio said. "He's a man of deep faith, dedication to his family, to his community, but more importantly for the job of chief public defender, real care and respect for the poor, the mentally ill, children, the downtrodden, the forgotten of our society, which is a large part of what we do as public defenders."
