President Trump plans to name Jay Clayton as White House AI czar

(NBC, KYMA) - NBC News has learned President Donald Trump plans to name Jay Clayton as the White House AI czar, according to a source familiar with the matter.

President Trump teased the move this week and is expected to announce the move on social media, possibly as early as Friday, per the same source.

It comes after a lengthy meeting with tech giants at the White House Tuesday, which clayton attended.

Clayton is currently serving as the Director of National Intelligence, and this new responsibility would be in addition to his current role.

However, a White House official also told NBC News that "any personnel announcement will be announced directly by the president. Any reporting until then is baseless speculation."
