FIRST ALERT ACTION DAY: Tracking ongoing heat and humidity with storms still possible
A Weather Authority First Alert Action Day remains in effect for the Desert Southwest for the extreme heat and humid conditions. There are chance for showers and storms for the area through the week and into early next week.
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - Yuma County finally had some rain that arrived this morning. It brought moderate and light rainfall, winds, lightning, and thunder.

Now the rain that fell this morning in Yuma County brought some measurable rainfall. It wasn't much, but hey, it is something. Higher amounts were in Eastern Yuma County. Take a look at other areas that saw measurable rainfall.
An Extreme Heat Warning is staying in effect until 8 p.m. SUNDAY for the Desert Southwest due to dangerously hot and humid conditions.
Highs will be between 106-114 degrees, and overnight lows between 84-91 degrees. With the heat and higher humidity, heat index levels will also be high. Our "feels like temperatures" will be between 110-120 degrees.
This extreme heat warning is also in effect due to consistent heat for the next several days and no relief even at night.
We have a ridge of high pressure in the Desert Southwest keeping the Desert Southwest hot and bringing in major heat risk.
We have a current monsoonal setup, so I am tracking a surge of monsoonal moisture continuing to steer monsoonal moisture into the area, which lead to higher and daily shower and storm chances into early next week.
I am tracking chance for scattered showers and storms still being possible for the rest of the week.
Keep in mind if any storms do develop it could bring heavy rain, flooding, and gusty winds. Always be prepared, alert, and storm ready.
But tracking higher and more active weather to the east, but outflow boundaries could still bring rain, gusty winds, and blowing dust to our area as well.
