Nearly 30 WWII Veterans arrive in Atlanta for fifth Normandy Legacy Flight

ATLANTA (CBS, KYMA) - Over the weekend and into Monday, nearly 30 World War II veterans from across the United States arrived in Atlanta ahead of the fifth Normandy Legacy Flight, a journey honoring their service and sacrifice more than eight decades after D-Day.

At airports nationwide, Delta employees and customers gathered to give the Veterans a sendoff worthy of their legacy.

From heartfelt gate announcements to personal expressions of gratitude, travelers paused to recognize the men whose courage helped shape the course of history.

Now, as the veterans make their way to Atlanta and prepare for the journey to Normandy, they carry with them firsthand stories of one of the defining moments of World War II, stories that will once again be shared on the very ground where history was made.
