Tracking a warming trend for Memorial Day weekend

It's been a great and seasonable week, but temperatures are going to be warming up for Memorial Day. Thankfully, it won’t be a significant warm-up, but it will still be slightly above-average.

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA-TV)- Happy Thursday! Our latest drought monitor has been released. With the warm and dry weather it has brought changes to our drought conditions especially here in Yuma County.

100% of Yuma County is sitting at abnormally dry conditions, and just this week 67.05% of the county is now experiencing moderate conditions. This is 47% higher compared to last week, where only 20.42% of the county was sitting at moderate drought. You can check Yuma County's latest drought conditions here.

As for Imperial County, 52.07% of the county is abnormally dry, and 47.93% is under no drought. You can read more about Imperial County's drought conditions here.

It's been a warm day with highs trending in the upper 90s, which is just a few degrees above average. Winds will also be pretty light and between 5-20 MPH.

For our evening ahead, temperatures will cool down nicely, making it feel more comfortable outside. Great weather to hang out outside, especially after sunset.

An Air Quality Alert is in effect until 8 pm TONIGHT for parts of Imperial County due to high ozone levels. Make sure to protect your health and check the air quality as needed.

Looking ahead to Memorial Day weekend we are in for sunny and dry weather with warmer temperatures. Triple-digits are expected to arrive by Memorial Day on Monday.

Thankfully, this extra warmth won't last too long, temperatures will quickly cool down by the middle of the week as highs will drop into the low 90s.
