Shoppers in Atlanta make mad dash up mall escalator

ATLANTA (CBS, KYMA) - A swarm of shoppers descended on Atlanta's Lenox Square mall Saturday for the release of a collaboration between Swatch and Audemars Piguet.

The much-hyped timepieces have caused frenzies in numerous cities, and forced store closures, as huge lines grew out of control.

Footage filmed by @communitykai shows shoppers making a mad dash up a Lenox Square escalator to try to get to the Swatch store and snag one of the new Royal Pop Collection pocket watches.

"Zombie apocalypse or Black Friday?" @communitykai captioned the video on TikTok.

Swatch U.S. closed at least 19 of its stores in the country, including the Lenox Square mall location, Saturday to "ensure a safe environment" amid "extraordinarily high demand," according to news reports.
