2026 FIFA World Cup kicks off in the U.S. in 30 days

LOS ANGELES (NBC, KYMA) - The 2026 FIFA World Cup is just 30 days away from kicking off in the United States.

An event was held Tuesday at Sofi Stadium in Los Angeles (L.A.) to highlight the 30-day mark, and to announce the city is ready and excited to welcome the world to Southern California for a well-rounded fan experience.

From food to affordable transportation, no stone has been left unturned.

"The world game is coming to the greatest city in the world, Los Angeles. And I'm so thrilled because fans from all over the world will get a chance not only to see some great soccer being played here, but also to enjoy our city at the same time," said Earvin "Magic" Johnson, Los Angeles World Cup 2026 Community Ambassador.

"The 2026 FIFA World Cup is finally here, and we're excited about all the opportunities Angelinos and visitors from around the world will have to participate in the world's biggest sporting event here in the sports capital of the world," said Kathryn Schloessman, CEO of the L.A. World Cup 2026 Host Committee.

"We work together to make sure we had one fare related to our dedicated direct to stadium shuttle service. And that's $1.75. And so it is the best way to go, particularly when you think about our high gas prices. The $1.75 is our regular fare, so we use that as the basis for coming up with the fare for the World Cup."

Stephanie Wiggins, Metro CEO

"It's hard to believe that after eight years of collaboration, determination, and preparation, we are just 30 days away from the 2026 World Cup," said Larry Freedman, co-chair of the L.A. World Cup 2026 Host Committee.

The City of Los Angeles will host eight world cup matches, featuring the national teams of the United States, Paraguay, Iran, New Zealand, Switzerland, Bosnia, Belgium and Turkey.
