Three U.S. Army soldiers receive Medal of Honor

WASHINGTON (NBC, KYMA) - Three soldiers who served in the U.S. Army were awarded the Medal of Honor Monday at the White House.

President Donald Trump presented the medals which are awarded for combat service that goes beyond the call of duty and risks one's life.

Two of the medals were awarded posthumously.

Staff Sgt. Michael Ollis, who died in combat in Afghanistan, was recognized for saving the life of a Polish Army officer.

Command Sgt. Terry Richardson was honored for his actions during the Vietnam War. He is credited with saving the lives of more than 80 service members.

Master Sgt. Roderick Edmonds was remembered for leading the resistance while he was a prisoner in Germany during World War II. He died in 1985.

President Trump said, "You never really know who's brave and who's not until they're tested."
