Matadors scrimmage Soccer Club Del Sol Yuma

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Arizona Western College men's soccer took one step closer to the regular season Saturday night, squaring off in an exhibition match against local club Del Sol Yuma in a last-minute change of plans.

Originally set to face a different opponent, the Matadors pivoted quickly, using the friendly to grease the wheels and get valuable minutes under their belts.

While the scoreboard held little weight, the match offered critical insight for head coach Kenny Dale, who is still shaping his lineup ahead of the season opener.

With several key contributors returning from last season, the foundation is there, but top-contributing spots are still very much up for grabs.

Dale made an emphasis to play every single one of his players, focusing less on results and more on player fitness and readiness.

One of his main priorities for the night was assessing who could deliver a full ninety minutes of high-level effort.

Arizona Western returns to action Wednesday for another home friendly, this time hosting Embry-Riddle University, as they continue tuning up for what is expected to be another run at a championship.
