Arizona optimistic of a turn around in year two in the Big 12

Arizona head coach Brent Brennan shares his optimism at Big 12 Media Days ahead of the 2025 season.

FRISCO, Texas (KYMA, KECY) - After a disappointing 4–8 campaign in 2024, the Arizona Wildcats are looking to turn the page and second-year head coach Brent Brennan is optimistic that better days are ahead.

Speaking at Big 12 Media Days, Brennan acknowledged the failures of last season, which ended with a blowout loss to rival Arizona State at home. But his focus has shifted toward rebuilding, with new leadership on the coaching staff and renewed belief in his players.

"I think it starts with the decisions we made with the coaching staff," Brennan said. "Our new defensive coordinator, Danny Gonzales, I'm really excited about his process with our team so far. I'm excited about [new offensive coordinator] Seth Doege and our offense. He brings the kind of aggressive, explosive offense we want to play at U of A."

While Arizona lost star wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan, a top-10 NFL Draft pick, the Wildcats bring back quarterback Noah Fifita, who will be the centerpiece of the revamped offense.

Fifita showed promise in 2023, but faced struggles last season behind an inconsistent offensive line and a lackluster run game. Brennan believes those issues have been addressed, and he’s confident in the quarterback’s potential to shine.

"We've made moves in the direction of making those issues better," Brennan said. "I think when we get to December, everbody in the conference - maybe everybody in America - is going to be talking about Noah Fifita. When you watch how he delivers the football, he's one of the cleanest throwers that I've ever seen."

Arizona opens their season on August 30 at home against the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors.
