Extreme heat returns to Yuma County and Imperial Valley this week

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The heat is back, and it's turning up fast. Temperatures across the lower deserts, including Yuma County and the Imperial Valley, are climbing above seasonal norms, with highs expected to approach 110° by Sunday evening.

But that's just the start as the National Weather Service says even hotter days are ahead, with widespread Extreme Heat Warnings in effect for much of the region from Tuesday through Thursday.

Highs could reach as high as 115° midweek, with limited overnight relief and dangerously elevated heat risks.

A strong ridge of high pressure is responsible for the warming trend and dry conditions, keeping rain chances minimal across southwest Arizona and southeastern California through the workweek.

By Wednesday, the worst of the heat is expected to peak, triggering Major HeatRisk alerts across the region.

For now, residents are urged to take precautions, stay hydrated, and limit outdoor activity during the hottest parts of the day.
