AWC’s Edwin Suarez earns spot in NJCAA All-Star Game
Sophomore forward becomes third straight Matador to earn NJCAA All-Star honors
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Arizona Western College standout Edwin Suarez is heading to Las Vegas next month, selected to represent the Matadors in the 2025 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Men's Basketball Coaches All-Star Game.
Suarez, a sophomore forward from Reading, Pennsylvania, put together a dominant season, earning ACCAC Division I Player of the Year honors and being named a Third Team NJCAA All-American.
His impact was felt across the court, leading the Matadors in both scoring and rebounding as they advanced to the Region I championship game.
Suarez averaged 13.4 points and 8.7 rebounds per game this season. He racked up a total of 271 rebounds, the most in ACCAC Division I, and led the conference in offensive boards with 106. His efforts were key in helping AWC stay competitive all year.
The sophomore tallied six 20+ point performances, including a career-high 25 points in a November win over Arizona Sol. He also pulled down double-digit rebounds in 11 different games, grabbing a season-best 15 boards in a victory over Southern Nevada back in January.
This marks the third straight year a Matador has earned an All-Star selection, with Suarez joining former teammates AJ Marmolejos and Yaxel Lendeborg on the growing list of AWC stars recognized nationally.
The All-Star Game is set for Saturday, May 17, at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas. Tipoff is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Arizona time, and the event will be streamed live on YouTube.
Rosters will be finalized later this month following a coaches' draft.
