Government attempting to get rid of 480 million acres of single-use plastic

(KYMA, KECY) - The government wants to get rid of singe-use plastic containers on public land.

The Interior Department says it is taking new steps to phase out the use of plastic packaging, bottles and straws on all of the lands it manages.

All 480 million plus acres of it, including national parks.

The department is looking at replacing plastic with alternatives that are compostable, 100% recyclable or made with biodegradable materials.

It has set a goal to completely phase out single-use plastic by 2032.
