CBP Officers seize over $1.8M in drugs

SAN DIEGO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY)- U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers working at the San Ysidro and Otay Mesa Port of Entry seize over 207 pounds of drugs in two separate cases.

CBP says last week, a 20-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman, both Mexican citizens, were sent to secondary after a canine alerted to their vehicle.

Officers searched the vehicle and discovered 80 wrapped packages on the floor that contained five pounds of heroin and 90 pounds of methamphetamine.

The second incident occurred hours later at the Otay Mesa Port of Entry when a canine alerted to the dashboard of a Volkswagen Jetta driven by a 32-year-old woman.

Officers say the woman was in the vehicle with her 36-year-old husband and two children, all Mexican citizens. After examining the vehicle, officers discovered 42 wrapped packages of cocaine it the dashboard and rear quarter panels.

CBP officers seized the vehicles and drugs. The individuals were turned over to Homeland Security Investigation for further processing.
