CALEXICO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY)-Two previously deported gang members are arrested in Calexico over the weekend.

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) said a man suspected of illegally entering the U.S., was arrested approximately 20 miles west of the Calexico Downtown Port of Entry.

After agents screened the man, he was identified as Jose Hernandez, a 29-year-old Mexican national. Records showed he is a documented Sureño-13 gang member with an extensive criminal record.

Hernandez was removed from the U.S., in January 2020.

Agents arrested the other man approximately 22 miles from the Calexico Port of Entry.

CBP says he was identified as Sergio Maya-Rios, a 53-year-old Mexican national who admits being a Paisa gang member with an extensive criminal record.

Maya-Rios was removed from the U.S., in January 2020.

Both men are being held in federal custody pending further criminal prosecution.
