Matador basketball camp returns June 6th

The annual event kicks off Monday, June 6th, and is led by AWC coaching staffs and players

YUMA, Ariz. ( KYMA, KECY-TV ) - The Matador basketball camp kicks off on Monday morning at Arizona Western College. Kids in kindergarten through 12th grade are encouraged to sign up and learn basketball skills from Arizona Western's mens's and women's coaching staffs along with current players. The camp takes place Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. inside the Arizona Western College gymnasium.

"We work all aspects of the game just trying to get kids interested," Arizona Western women's basketball head coach Patrick Cunningham said. "We have a little hoop for the little ones, just to get them excited about the game of basketball."

Campers will work on footwork, dribbling, shooting form, defense and rebounding. Cunningham says no matter what the skill level, there is something for everyone.

"As long as they're willing to come and have fun, we'll introduce them to all aspects of the game," Cunningham said.
