Opening ceremonies for Tokyo Olympics one year from today

Countdown is on to delayed international competition

TOKYO, Japan (KYMA, KECY) - The Opening Ceremonies for the Tokyo Olympics will kick off one year from Thursday.

The last time the world gathered for the summer games was in 2016 in Rio de Janiero. That opening ceremony was packed with fireworks, music, performers, and of course, nearly 11, 000 Olympic athletes.

Team USA turned in a dominant performance in Rio, winning a total of 121 medals, including 46 golds.

Now it's only a matter of time before the world ignites the Olympic cauldron once again. You can catch all the action on News 11 and KYMA.com, as well as on the NBC-Universal family of networks.
