Karen Rivas shines in return to soccer pitch for Lady Matadors

Kofa's Karen Rivas returns to the soccer pitch in grand fashion scoring a goal and adding an assist

YUMA, Ariz. ( KYMA, KECY-TV ) - It was almost a year to the day that Kofa grad Karen Rivas last played on the Matador Soccer Field. The sophomore missed a significant amount of time due to a left leg injury. On Tuesday night, at home against Mesa, Rivas returned to the pitch. In her first minute in the game, the Lady Matadors quickly put on an offensive rush. Rivas found Izzy Payne on the left side of the net, Payne passed back to Rivas and Rivas quickly found the net giving Arizona Western a 2-0 lead.

Moments later it was Rivas again, this time, working through traffic and working on the left side of the goal, returned the favor by passing to Payne who found the back of the net. For Rivas, a goal and an assist in her first minutes back. AWC would go on to win 4-0 and improve to 4-0 on the season. The AWC men also won to improve to 5-0 on the season. Both teams will travel to Yavapai this Saturday.
