GOP releases new rules package

(CNN, KYMA/KECY) - House Republicans have revealed their rules package for the upcoming Congress.

It formalizes the concessions Representative Kevin McCarthy has agreed to in his bid for House Speaker.

According to the new rules, only five Republicans are needed to call a vote to oust the sitting speaker.

It also restores the ability to zero out a government official's salary, gives lawmakers 72 hours to read a bill before it comes to the floor and creates a new select committee to investigate the "weaponization" of the justice department and FBI.

Republicans are keeping the discharge petitions which allows lawmakers to force a bill to the floor if 218 lawmakers support it.

The new rules also prohibit remote hearings and staff unionization efforts.

The rules still have to be adopted by the house, once it selects a speaker.
