Case of man charged with sexual assault, burglary continues in court

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - A warning to our viewers, this next story may be difficult to read, so viewer discretion is advised.

The Yuma man accused of sexually assaulting a woman in front of her own child appeared in court for a trial setting or change of plea hearing.

26-year-old Antonio Payne is charged with one count of sexual assault and two counts of second-degree burglary.

The defense says it received a plea offer from the state, but asked for a continuance, delaying the case for two more weeks.

Yuma police accuse Payne of breaking into the victim's home on west 32nd Street near 8th Avenue back in January and sexually assaulting her.

The victim was present in the courtroom but did not speak.

Payne is expected to be back in court next month.
