YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KSWT, KECY)-An O.C. Johnson Elementary School teacher won the first-ever Alexander Flightline Mazda Mitsubishi (AFMM) Educator Awards Contest.

The award was established to celebrate educators within the Yuma community.

Nominations were accepted through social media throughout the month of November.

The goal for AFMM was to bring awareness to educators who go above and beyond every day.

Alaina Sanders is a 5th-grade teacher at O.C. Johnson Elementary and was the recipient of the award. She was presented with a trunkload of school supplies in front of the entire 5th-grade class.

She received bags full of markers, pencils, erasers, glue, a pencil sharper, paper, among other supplies.

The 5th graders were all excited as they will all be utilizing the new supplies. Sanders' students felt like there wasn't anyone more deserving of the award.
