Ag Alert: FDA, taking steps to track outbreaks
This after four outbreaks in two years.
YUMA Ariz. (KYMA, KSWT). Ag Alert; The Food and Drug Administration has announced that they will be testing romaine lettuce for pathogens. This comes after four outbreaks in just two years. Those outbreaks were linked to possible E. Coli contaminated romaine. The FDA is turning to microbial testing in an effort to see what’s causing the outbreaks.
  The FDA announced that it is currently collecting samples of romaine lettuce and testing it for Salmonella and Escherichia Coli. The testing is set to run until November 2020. They plan on collecting samples prior to being processed; this will assure them of the source of any contamination. If a sample is found to be contaminated the FDA will work with the facility to correct the issue.
