Georgia residents cast their vote in the Senate runoff

ATLANTA, Geor. (NBC) - It's decision day in Georgia as voters head to the polls in the hotly contested runoff race for the U.S. Senate.

Voters braved the rain early Tuesday in Atlanta as they cast their votes in the runoff election between incumbent Democratic Senator Raphael Warnock and Republican challenger Herschel Walker.

In addition, this election has already seen record early voting numbers in the state.

Overall, the results will determine whether Democrats have an outright 51-49 Senate majority.

If it will be a 50-50 senate, the tie-breaking vote will be in the hands of Vice President Kamala Harris.

Warnock, the state's first black senators, led Walker by about 37,000 votes in the general election.

However, he did not reach a majority vote total, triggering Tuesday's runoff vote.
