Arizona Senator files to ratify Equal Rights Amendment

MGN

On Friday, Senator Victoria Steele introduced a resolution to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA).

Senator Steel wants the ERA bill to send a clear message.

"The women of this country deserve to be considered equal in the Constitution," she said.

"This is an effort almost a century old and one that was championed at the Arizona Legislature in 1972 by then state senator, Sandra day O'Connor, who tried to make Arizona the first state to ratify."

Though Arizona is not the first, the state could make history by becoming the 38th state to ratify the amendment, making history.

This bill, SCR 1000, is the first state legislation of the 2020 session.
