YUMA, Ariz. – A woman shared her personal weight loss journey on TLC’s show ‘Skin Tight’, which shows the struggles of dealing with excess skin after significant weight loss.
Tanya Benedict’s five year weight loss journey got national attention.
Benedict said, “You know I grew up believing I wasn’t important. I still struggle with that.”
TLC reached out to her on social media.
Benedict said, “I posted a lot of before and after pictures.”
“At my heaviest, I weighed 387. After losing at that point, I had lost 200 lbs was having a hard time seeing myself with all that skin.” Benedict said.
TLC captured the process of removing skin after losing significant amount of weight.
Benedict said, “I lost 26 lbs of skin.” She says this whole process has completely changed her life. “I felt trapped in my body in my home.”
Doctors told her she needed to make a change. She was at risk for diabetes, high blood pressure, hormone issues.
Benedict said, “I was constantly reminded I needed to lose weight.”
The doctor gave her two choices back surgery or bariatric surgery; she chose bariatric. Benedict said, “My life is transformed, I got married a month after my gastric bypass surgery and my wedding dress was too big.”
Tanya’s says her goal is to help people know they’re worthy, important, and capable.
Benedict said, “After my surgeries, they asked me to look in the mirror and what do I see, and I cried. Now I look in the mirror and I see me.”
