Yuma man takes three people hostage

YUMA, Ariz. – The Yuma Police Department arrested a man Friday night after he allegedly took three people hostage for about one hour.

At approximately 8:15 p.m., officers with the YPD responded to the Vincent Nelson Apartments, 2030 S. Ave. A, for a report of a disturbance. YPD said upon arrival officers saw 30-year-old Cody Bedoya, run inside an apartment, and he refused to answer the door. It was learned the Bedoya was possibly armed and was not allowing two juveniles and another adult man to leave the home. Verbal contact was made with Bedoya and he refused to release the other occupants.

The Department’s Special Enforcement Team arrived on scene and continued negotiations with the Bedoya. After approximately an hour the Bedoya surrendered to officers and was taken into custody. The three other occupants were released without injury.
