IMPERIAL COUNTY, Calif. – A house fire in Yuma forced residents out of their home leaving parts of it completely destroyed.
Rural/Metro Fire Department, Charly McMurdie said, “I know that we responded to the fire and upon initial arrival we didn’t see anything so we started an investigation and found the fire in the bedroom.”
It happened near Avenue C and Third Place around 9 p.m. Monday.
Patty Stallings who’s the homeowner said, “This is the bedroom and we have a guest staying here so we believe that somehow maybe something got put into the trash can which was right there and then started the room on fire.”
She says her son is a hero for helping take all the pets and family members outside of the house while the fire was burning.
Rural/Metro is still investigating the exact cause. There were no injuries reported, the two adults and three kids who live there are now getting help from the Red Cross.
Meanwhile, firefighters are battling another fire nearby. Imperial County Fire Department is battling a blaze south of Calle Agua Salada in California. Yuma Fire and Rural/Metro are on scene assisting with the blaze.
McMurdie adds, “Northwest of Yuma, closer to the area of what appears to be the Q Casino. There’s a large plume of smoke that appears to be wildfire that is currently burning and Imperial County is fighting it and we’re assisting them with that fire.”
McMurdie says no one was reportedly hurt from the blaze or is endangered.
She adds, “As far as I know it’s just north of the Sleepy Hallow trailer park but it’s not endangering the trailer park.”
So far we don’t know how much of the fire has spread or what the cause of the fire is. But we’ll be sure to update you as soon more information becomes available.
