YUMA, Ariz. – Donald Trump’s border plan is to force Mexico to pay for a border wall by blocking money transfers to the country.
Saul Orteja who’s anti-Trump said, “If he wants to build the big wall over there he can spend his money not for us.”
In his plan released today, Trump says he will make sure Mexico pays for a border wall by not only blocking money, but also canceling visas unless Mexico makes a one-time payment of $5 billion to $10 billion to the United States.
Christi Gibel who’s pro-Trump said, “I’m all for Trump. We need somebody that knows about business to bring back the things in America that are important.”
Rafael Murrieta doesn’t agree with Trump’s plan saying, “I don’t think it’s going to be a good move if he’s there in the office.”
According to one estimate from The World Bank, Mexico received around $24 billion in remittances in 2014.
Gibel adds, “We need to take care of ourselves here first. I can’t take care of somebody in another country. He’s doing it the right way. Because if you have to be hard, you have to be hard because people have been taking advantage of the situation for way too long.”
Mexico’s President Enrique Peña Nieto has said the country won’t pay for Trump’s wall.
One Yuma man said, “My grandma has family in Mexico and she does it all the time. She’d be very infuriated.”
Experts have said that millions of immigrants living in the U.S. send money home to family and friends and typical migrant worker send money home 14 times a year.
Gibel adds, “They’re not used to someone saying this is what’s wrong, everybody wants to say it really nicely but nobody wants to do anything about it. This is our last chance. This is really our last chance. And I know a lot of people don’t like him he has a big mouth he’s entitled to his own opinions, but I’ll tell you something he really wants America to be what it can be.”
