The head of the Calexico Recall Committee in jail. Diana Nuricumbo was in a domestic dispute over the weekend.
Nuricumbo remains in the Imperial County Jail.
Calexico police say they arrested her for domestic violence, assaiult with a deadly weapon and child endangerment on Sunday morning.
according to police a brick was involved in the incident. "It is unfortunate. I think everyone has had friends or neighbors or family members who have unfortunately who have been involved in activity that has ended up having to be in jail," Sheriff Ray Loera said.
Nuricumbo is Sheriff Loera’s executive administrative assistant.
Members of the recall committee say this is a personal matter and doesn’t stop their mission.
"I personally do not have any information other than I know it’s an ongoing investigation but personally we’re all human. We all encounter problems in life other than that I have no idea I have not talked to her," Calexico Recall Committee member said.
"She has always been a very hard working person very loyal to the office. I think this is something that happens to families. It’s a very personal thing," Loera said.
Nuricumbo is on paid administrative leave. The recall committee says they’ll continue to collect signatures to recall Calexico councilmen Luis Castro and Joong Kim.
"The committee keeps on. We are going to keep on going. We are going to keep on gathering the signatures. If other people have personal problems that’s on them. We continue," Padilla said.
Nuricumbo will be arraigned on Wednesday.
