The Arizona Western College Matadors took a pair of losses to Pima as they opened up ACCAC play this past weekend. Fast forward to Tuesday and they were looking to make the previous doubleheader a distant memory.
In game one against Eastern Arizona, the Mats put up five runs early that proved to be enough for them to get the win. The Matador's Anthony Aguila led the way with two of his team's RBI's.
Mats starting pitcher Brandon Anderson put in a strong seven innning performance, only giving up three runs in the top of the 2nd innning.
Game two's run total was more at a premium, but the results were the same for the Mats. AWC's Nate Stepna and former Gila Ridge standout Irving Lopez each scored a run early that proved to make the difference.
Jerremyh Angela pitched six strong innings and struck out six batters in AWC's 2 to 1 win.
The Mats will next head to Phoenix to take on Gateway in a doubleheader on Saturday.
