The Yuma County Sheriff's Office received a report after three cars collided on Highway 95 just south of County 12 1/2 Street.
"The blue Honda was traveling south and saw an ambulance approaching from behind. They started to slow down. The Chevy pickup did not see the Honda slow down and they rear-ended the blue Honda," said YCSO's Public Information Officer, Alfonso Zavala.
The two cars pulled over to the side of the road, and the driver and passenger of the Honda got out to check on the other driver.
That's when a family member of the driver in the pickup arrived at the scene and got out of his car to help the others.
"Later a tan colored van did not notice the Chevy pick up stopped on Highway 95 and collided with the rear-end of the Chevy pick up and striking all three passengers," said Zavala.
Five people were taken to Yuma Regional Medical Center, and three were later flown to St. Joseph's Hospital.
We spoke to a representative from St. Joseph's who says two patients remain in serious condition and one is in good condition.
Sheriff's officials say the cause of the wreck is still unknown, but they believe alcohol is not a factor.
