That was the last time anyone has heard or seen 82-year-old Jack Doering, a Yuma Foothills resident who disappeared after going out for a haircut.
That is until this past Saturday, when his vehicle was found in a much more peculiar location.
That’s when the Yuma County Sheriff's Office received a tip from the San Bernardino county Sheriffs Office, saying they had located Mr. Doering’s 2002 Chevrolet Suburban inside a wash northwest of Parker, Arizona, inside the state of California.
Deputies say they found the vehicle with a flat tire and dead battery.
There was extensive water damage to the car.
Alfonso Zavala with the Yuma County Sheriffs Office says a thorough search of the area surrounding the vehicle came up empty.
"A search and rescue team was brought in to search the area, including a helicopter,” says Zavala. “Unfortunately, Mr. Doering was not found."
Mr. Doering suffers from Alzheimer’s, which is believed to have played a role in his disappearance.
Still, Zavala and the rest of the sheriffs office is hoping for the best.
“He is still considered a missing person, and we are still actively investigating his disappearance. If anything, we hope we can just bring some closure to his (Mr. Doering’s) family, and to his wife.”
