Tommy Obeso’s lawyer is claiming that the Calexico police officer in charge of this case has lied and has embellished his testimony.
The district attorney has charged Obeso, a former Aurora High School teacher in Calexico with three counts.
"He sent basically explicit material over the internet to a minor with the intent to arouse sexual interest the other count is that he arranged a meeting with the minor for lewd purposes and he showed up at that meeting and the third one is sexual battery," Imperial County Assistant District Attorney Heather Trapnell said.
The alleged victim is a former student of Obeso’s.
Obeso’s lawyer claims the officer on the case lied in his testimony and also embellished when he testified. the judge acknowledged the claims.
Obeso’s wife continues to stand by his side. Obeso’s lawyer says he’s going to request the trial be moved to a different venue because he thinks the potential jurors would know to much about the case through the media.
A pretrial is set for November 7th.
