The Yuma and El Centro areas continue to top the list for unemployment and jobless rates.
The latest numbers from the Bureau of Labor Statistics show that Yuma ranks number one for unemployment at 34.5 percent.
Yuma also has the largest increase in the U.S. For joblessness.
The number rose by 2.5 percent in the last year.
The El Centro area is the second highest with 26.1 percent unemployment, although the area had a 4 percent decrease in unemployment from last year--the largest decrease in the nation.
In recent months, people in the Desert Southwest have flooded job fairs.
The most recent in May, where almost 2,000 people attended a job expo put on by the Goodwill of Central Arizona.
The Greater Yuma Economic Development Corporation tells News 11 they're trying to bring in jobs that complement our area's agriculture industry--jobs in engineering, aerospace, manufacturing and food processing.
But even when jobs are available, there is a skills deficit, where people aren't qualified for available jobs, according to the EDC.
There will be another job expo this fall put on by the Goodwill of Central Arizona, which offers resources in skills training.
