What appeared to be a lazy Sunday night patrol turned into much more than that when a Sheriff's Deputy was called to a disturbance, where residents reported hearing several shots fired.
When deputies arrived at the scene they found a man out in the street yelling for help. Upon closer inspection, they discovered the man had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
It was about three in the morning when a sheriff's deputy making routine patrols near the Donovan Estates area was directed to the 8200 block of S. Coconino lane.
It was here they discovered the injured man, and he was immediately transported to Yuma Regional Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
Alfonso Zavala is the public information officer with the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office and says they believe it was a simple disagreement that led to the shooting.
"From the investigation and talking to the victim, we believe he was at a party at a friend’s house, and we believe that something may have occurred there that led to the shooting later on that night," said Zavala.
News 11 spoke to some area residents who heard the gunshots, but none were willing to speak on camera, saying they have dangerous neighbors and are scared to be identified, instead saying they simply "don't want trouble."
Zavala says residents should not be afraid to come forward with information on any investigation.
“The Donovan Estates area was once considered a dangerous area, but with the help of the community and our deputies patrolling the area, it has become a much safer place for the citizens of Yuma County."
