The trial for the local former youth pastor accused of giving sex toys to a minor continued Wednesday with a mitigation hearing.
During the hearing, Eric Robert Warren, 42, took the stand.
While on the stand, Warren told the judge and those in attendance he was sorry for his actions. "I am very sorry for what I did, I know it was wrong," Warren said.
He is a former youth pastor at Valley Baptist Church in Yuma. He was arrested in November 2012 for giving a 14-year-old-girl sex toys.
Warren has since pleaded guilty to one felony count of criminal trespass with a sexual motivation.
The defense brought in three witnesses to the stand Wednesday afternoon, all of whom say they have known Warren for years.
Warren's defense attorney requested the mitigation hearing after objecting to the sentencing. He does not believe Warren should have to file as a sex offender in the Yuma community.
Warren was the last one to take the stand. He said, "I am very sorry for the harm that this has been for the community...and people who work with kids."
In the plea agreement Warren is not allowed to apply for any clerical or related positions for at least five years. He must also write a letter of apology to the victim's family.
Prosecutors in court asked witnesses if they knew about Warren's past with viewing online pornography. They all said they did not.
Warren faces up to 36 months of supervised probation as well as paying up to a $150,000 fine.
