At 11 a.m. Thursday morning the Yuma Police Department was out at the Knights Inn & Suites on Fourth Avenue.
Officers were there to follow-up on a case they were investigating when they came across more than they expected.
“We were conducting some follow up investigation on a case when officers found a device that they thought was suspicious,” said Leanne Worthen, public information officer with the Yuma Police Department.
Law enforcement officials immediately evacuated parts of the hotel.
Police then called in the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office Explosive Ordinance Team to further investigate the device.
After a short examination, the ordinance team gave the all clear, telling police the device is “not a threat.”
Police did however find weapons and drugs inside the room where the device was found.
News 11 will continue to monitor this story and will provide further information as soon as it becomes available.
