Before murder suspect Jose Jimenez even entered the courtroom, his lawyer had plenty to complain about.
“We request that he (Jimenez) be allowed to wear civilian clothing (in court), as it is obvious that the news media is going to continue to film him,” said Jimenez’s lawyer. If he is going to continue to be paraded around like some sort of circus animal, that is going to prejudice the jury pool.”
Besides asking the judge that Jimenez be allowed to wear civilian clothes, his lawyer also asked for a one week continuance to further review evidence.
All these requests were denied by the judge.
Jimenez is in court for two cases, one of which he is standing accused of first degree murder of his former girlfriend, Chrystal Figueroa.
In March, Figueroa’s body was found in a citrus grove outside of Yuma.
She was shot 16 times, with three different weapons.
During a previous court appearance, Jimenez told the judge he is being wrongfully pinned for the murder.
In a separate case, the 30-year-old suspect is facing aggravated assault and unlawful flight from police.
