Miguel Rodriguez is facing attempted first degree after his girlfriend involved him in a dispute with a friend of hers.
Nearly two weeks ago, Rodriguez’s girlfriend, Misty Ann Martinez, got into an argument with 36-year-old Reyna Torres over property both claimed was theirs.
Following the argument, prosecutors say the 40-year-old enlisted the help of Rodriguez, who arrived at the house where Torres lived and shot her three times, leaving her critically wounded.
The two then began their week-long run from police before being captured last Thursday.
Martinez faces three felonies, including two counts of assisting a criminal street gang and hindering prosecution. According to prosecutors, Rodriguez is a known member of a local street gang.
The victim’s mother and daughter appeared in the courtroom, asking the judge to hold the couple behind bars, as they still fear for their family’s safety.
While the judge could not legally impose no bond, he did grant prosecutors requests to maintain the half a million dollars bond for both suspects, but modified Rodriguez’s bond to cash only.
