When jets aren’t flying near Imperial you can hear the birds chirping in this neighborhood.
This could all change if 100 F-35 Joint Strike Fighter jets make the Naval Air Facility their home base in 2016.
"This is something that would inject a lot of money into the economy. So I think it’s a win win for the whole valley. Not for just El Centro and Imperial, this is a valley issue," Imperial County Supervisor John Renison said.
It would cost millions of dollars less to have Naval Air Station Lemoore be their home. The selling factor of the great weather for flying.
"We understand Lemoore doesn’t want it. The citizens there don’t want it. That’s an interesting point the residents in the valley want it," Renison said.
"It’s not that often when it does happen it doesn’t really bother me," resident Alex Hernandez said.
Hernandez is one of a few residents that welcome the idea, especially if it creates more jobs.
"It’ll boost the economy around here bring more jobs," Hernandez said.
The NAF's infrastructure would cost money to build but valley leaders are open to the sound of freedom.
"There might be some inconveniences like jet noises but you know you look at the big picture those are small inconveniences," Renison said.
The board of supervisors have 90 days to continue making their pitch to the Pentagon.
