Since their home loss to Glendale in early March, the Arizona Western College Matadors have picked up steam on the road; winning four straight since then.
They lost their momentum in Douglas. After giving up a run in the early goings of game one, the Mats manufactured five runs in the third. This thanks to two doubles and a single put together in that inning alone. But the Apaches responded with four runs in the bottom half of the same inning.
The next time the Mats scored a run (6th inning) Cochise would respond one more time with three runs in the same inning. It would be enough to drop AWC to a 8-6 loss.
Game two would see Cochise put up five runs on the Mats in the first five innings. Even though AWC put together some hits in the contest, they could never get enough to score more than a couple of runs. The 5-2 loss drops the Matadors overall record to 20-13 and their ACCAC record to .500.
The Matadors continue their road swing at Mesa for a doubleheader this Saturday.
