Timing is everything. This statement proved to ring true as the Arizona Western College Lady Matadors softball team rolled into Thatcher for a doubleheader against the 8th ranked Eastern Arizona Gila Monsters.
In the top of the 4th inning of game 1, Lady Mat Mariah Caro knocked in a solo homerun in addition to the two other runs scored in that inning. That would be all they needed, as they staved off two scoring threats in the bottom of the 4th and 7th innings to win 3-2.
Game 2 proved to be another low scoring affair with Robyn Alvara knocking in an RBI in the first and Summer Ehrig blasting a solo homerun in the 7th to give the Lady Mats a 2-0 win. AWC pitcher Brianna VanSickle was lights out with her first no-hitter performance.
The Lady Mats next test will come from Odessa (TX) on Friday in the Deanna Mauer Classic at Casa Grande.
