On Monday, February 25th, Yuma Police detectives arrested Angel Varela, who was linked to a robbery that occurred Saturday, January 19th, near the 1700 block of W. Camino Kino.
“We arrested Angel Varela yesterday at around 3:50 P.M after a short foot chase,” says Officer Joe Franklin of the Yuma Police Department.
The 18-year-old is considered an accomplice to Isaac Garcia, who was arrested in late January for the same robbery.
During Varela’s attempted escape he threw a stolen handgun, which was recovered by authorities.
Varela is also being connected with two other juvenile inmates, Anthony Michael Sanchez and Abel Ruiz.
The two teens along with Garcia are being charged with armed robbery, aggravated robbery, aggravated assault, theft, and assisting a criminal street gang.
Varela is also facing multiple felony charges.
