The AWC Mens basketball team ended the first half of their conference season with a convincing home victory over the Mesa Thunderbirds by the score of 57 to 44. Even though the Mats struggled with their offensive output in the first half, (scoring only 22 points and shooting 27 percent) their second half momentum carried them to their 15th win of the season.

Sophomore guard Marvin Whitt led the Mats with 22 points, including three from beyond the arc. The win gives the Matadors a first place tie in the ACCAC with Central Arizona.

Meanwhile, the Lady Mats won 66 to 61 over the Lady Thunderbirds. Both teams travel to Tucson on Saturday to battle Pima.
