A fire in a residential district of Yuma caused severe damage to one home Tuesday evening.
Just after 6 P.M MST fire fighters responded to a house fire in the 2900 block of W. 20th place. The Yuma Fire Department responded to the area, where they arrived to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the house.
Mike Erfert, the public information officer for YFD, says first responder’s priority was to keep the fire from spreading to other homes.
“Yuma fire department responded to the area and when they got to the home they found heavy smoke and flames. One of the things firefighters took on initially was protecting the surrounding homes from the fire spreading.”
The first started in a bedroom, and the 2 people who lived in the home as well as their two dogs were able to exit the house safely.
