Sonoran firefighters learn from YFD

YUMA, Ariz. – Yuma Fire Department officials hosted a class for eight Sonoran firefighters who learned about investigating the cause of fire after a blaze.

The class was put on by Fire Investigator Mark Gordon, Fire Captain Tony DeAnda and Firefighter Manny Lara over the weekend.

Gordon taught “bomberos”, which means firefighter in Spanish, how to perform a proper investigation in order to determine how fires light up.

Yuma firefighters reached out to firemen in the San Luis, Sonora area to provide the training that may not be available to them in Mexico. However, the dangers they face north and south of the border are equally dangerous, according to fire officials.

Captain DeAnda said he was told, “This was exactly what they needed and they would be putting what they learned to use in their own department.”
