YUMA, Ariz. – Aggressive and threatening phone calls by criminals impersonating IRS agents remain a major threat to taxpayers.
One Foothills resident said a scammer called her early in the morning and left a voicemail asking for her to call them back.
Deborah Dixon said, “Somebody called and said to please call them back it was an animated voice.”
The scammers called again later that morning.
Dixon said, “I started talking to this Eastern Indian guy. My husband got on the phone also and we asked him where are you from, where are you calling from? And he said the IRS.”
That’s when Dixon knew it was a scam. She wants everyone to know that scammers are out there and don’t think something like this can’t happen to you.
She adds, “You’re just flabbergasted. You can’t believe that somebody would call up and do that to you. It doesn’t seem like it’s ever going to affect you but it does, it actually does, and he was trying to get away with something.”
