Calexico teacher involved in possible child abuse case

CALEXICO, Calif. – Accusations of a possible child abuse case involving a teacher has the community concerned about the welfare of their children.

The case was presented to Calexico Unified School District officials during one of the school board council meetings last week. Some parents filed several complaints accusing a Rockwood Elementary School teacher of allegedly abusing students mentally, verbally and physically.

Private investigator Jason Jung said he was contacted by one of the parents because authorities were not doing their part.

“They did nothing but give her a ‘call for service’ report which is nothing more than documented,” explained Jung.

But authorities say the opposite and confirm they are working with other entities.

“We have been investigating the complaints in conjunction with Child Protective Services, School District and the County Attorney,” said Armando Orozco, Detective with the Calexico Police Department.

School board member Ciro Calderon said the council was notified by the school district superintendent that an investigator from San Diego has also been hired to conduct an investigation.

The first accusations involved a teacher at Rockwood Elementary but now other alleged incidents involving teachers from other schools in Calexico have emerged. Although it is said that some of the accused employees are under administrative leave, school district officials say they cannot comment.

“It’s a case of district staff and we absolutely cannot comment on that, ” explained Calderon.

For now the investigation is ongoing and school district officials say they will take the necessary measures to ensure the safety of not only students but also the staff.
