Calexico family allegedly held at knifepoint

CALEXICO, Calif. – Calexico police said the search is on for several men who broke into a home and threatened the victims with a knife on Monday.

Police said the incident happened at a home on Andrade Avenue in Calexico.

“Several suspects entered the residence, ransacked it,” said Detective Albert Llanas.

A teenage boy and his disabled grandparent were inside the home, according to officials.

“Held down while the other subjects ransacked the residence,” Llanas said.

Officers said the suspects allegedly held them at knife point during the robbery.

“Several objects were taken and the Calexico Police Department located one of the objects near where this incident took place,” Llanas said.

Police said the victims are not helping in the investigation.

“The victim who is a male gave us very little details, uncooperative at the time, too,” Llanas said.

Officers said they are still investigating.

“At this time no suspects have been arrested,” Llanas said.

Neighbor Lourdes Pacheco said she doesn’t feel safe in the area, even though she’s never had a break-in.

“Lately there’s been a lot of break-ins. I wish there was more supervision,” Pacheco said.

She would like to see a neighborhood watch start soon.

“The same neighborhood right here we could keep a watch like we used to do before,” Pacheco said.

She says the neighborhood could help protect itself if they organized a watch.

“Us taking care of each other,” Pacheco said.

Until that happens, Pacheco said she relies on the eyes and ears of her three small dogs that are always on watch duty.
