YUMA, Ariz. – The Arizona Western College baseball team is saving it’s best for last. In their finale home doubleheader of the season, the Matadors take down a good Yavapai team in both games; earning a home sweep on Sophomore Day.
Game 1 featured ace pitcher Carlos Vega, who pitched another stellar game. He went all seven innings and tallied a career high 13 strikeouts in the 11-3 win.
The second game would prove more competitive, as both teams would trade runs through the first six innings, that featured a solo home run by Scooter Bynum to deep right. The Mats would secure the win in the eighth, when Dom Rodriguez put up a line drive that would produce two RBI’s; with the 5-3 final score.
The wins allow the Mats to improve their conference record to 15-19. They’ll look to keep the momentum going in their road season doubleheader finale at South Mountain this Saturday.
